The answers above are good. But, you won't remember how to do this thinking skill of multiplying fractions if you are not seeing the actual event. ALWAYS do the visualization first and ALWAYS try to estimate about how much the answer would be. . . not exactly, just a rough idea. Visualize and estimate. Imagine clearly twelve CD cases. Each case has slots for 100 CDs. That means, you have storage for 1200 CDs. BUT, each case is only about three/fourths full. (That's 75 CDs in each case). Just "see that", all those three-quarter filled CD cases spread out on the floor. Let your unconscious brain take in that image and let it start to work on the problem, too. Then, do the math as explained above. It works. This technique takes more time than just juggling the abstractions we call "numbers". But, people who visualize and estimate first, RETAIN their hard-earned knowledge better than others do, and, they can APPLY the knowledge better, they can do better on math tests, they score higher on college entrance exams, they have higher standards of living and health . . . and their mates are better looking. (just a little humor there). Now, get off this computer. . . "BACK AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER!" . . . and get back to your math. Can I bring you a glass of milk, hon, and some homemade sugared dough-nut holes?

It's easy. Multiply the numerators and then multiply the denominators, and then divide the two results, like this:
12 X 3/4 = (12 X 3) / (1* X 4) = 36 / 4 = 9
* the denominator of any whole number (such as 12) is always 1.

Convert the whole number into a fraction. 12* 3/4 would become
12/1 * 3/4.........then multiply the top and bottom to come out with 36/4 (then reduce).

You multiply fractions straight across. ex: 1/2 x 1/2= 1/4
Multiply whole numbers by adding a 1 in the denominator to make a fraction. ex: 12/1 x 1/2 = 12/2 which reduces to 6/1 or simple 6. Need more help just contact me.

for your example you would turn 12 into a fraction by putting it over 1. than you multiply 12/1 by 3/4 which equals 36/4. 4 goes into 36 so you simplify by dividing 36 by 4 and get 9/1 or 9.

ok, put the 12 over 1
12/1 then multiply 3/4
12/1 X 3/4
multiply the 12 and the 3 and get 36 (top w/ top)
mult the 1 w/ the 4 and get 4 (bottom w/ bottom)
then u get 36/4 which is 9
9 is ur answer!!!

12 * 3/4 is the same as 12/1 * 3/4. Just multiply the numerators times each other, and the denominators times each other.
The answer to your example is 36/4, or 9.

1. first, just multiply the whole number with the upper number of the fraction, in your case 12*3=36.
2. take the answer you got and divide it with the lower number of the fraction, in your case 36/4=9.
3. So, you got the answer : 12*3/4=9

convert 12 into a fraction which is twelve over one then reset the problem up 12 over one times 3 over4 and then see how many times 4 goes into 12 then multiply denominator by denominator and numerator by numerator your answer should be 9 even

multiply 12/1 by 3/4. Multiply them straight across so the answer to the example would be:
12x3=36
1x4=4
so the answer would be 36/4. Then you divide 36 by four (to reduce it) and the final answer is 9.
