Is it possible to create a copy of a key from the tracing of one on a piece of paper? And if so, is it legal?

Most businesses will go through a locksmith or hardware store to copy their keys. It'll cost a whole 97 cents.

The fact you feel that you have to make your own copy from a tracing and then question if it is legal is reason enough for me to tell you that it isn't.

Yes, it is possible to make a copy from a tracing. You have to have the correct key blank and a vice to hole the blank solid while the notches are filed in.
Is it legal? That depends, if it is your key yes it is legal to make a copy, if it belongs to someone else or a business a.d they do not know you are making a copy then it is probably illegal.
