before 9/11, the gov't never imagined that airplanes would be used as missles to bring down a building. what have you thought of that the gov't hasn't?
Most recently, the plot foiled in England involved liquid explosives being carried on as individual explosives and combined on the plane....
Taking a page from the narcotrafickers, I would be worried about terrorists swallowing the explosives like drug mules swallowing condoms full of drugs.

I think you have got it. If you are a suivide bomber why wouldn't you put the explosives inside your stomach and detonate yourself after take-off? Can't see them X-raying everyone at the airport before boarding. If a terrorist wants to blow up a plane bad enough he/she's going to do it.

I think you have one little problem there: Extracting all different portions at the same time in the air - I suppose swallowed by different individuals - to be combined and detonated?

A very creative terrorist would make his farewell videotape. Meet with all his terrorist friends and detonate his explosive belt. That way he and all his friends could be in paradise together!

Actually to be a really creative terrorist you really only have to do nothing. Most civilizations that have gone through a period of peace for a long time have ended up destroying themselves from whithin. Terrorism actually makes a culture more tightly knit and harder to destroy. It may cause disturbance but no culture has been completly destroyed by terrorism. If you leave a culture or a belief system alone it will destroy itself.
