I cannot tell if my lips are sunburned or if they are cold sores. I just spent a long weekend at the beach andhalf of my face got realyl sunburned. Today i just noticed a bunch of bumps on my lips on the same side of my face that was sunburned. There are no sores, but i cannot tell if my lips are sunburned or if they are cole sores, and yes i do get cole sores but usually only once or twice a year. They are itchy, and sort of tingle but i cant tell if it is tingly because they are cracked and peeling or if it is a coal sore ...HELP

Yes they are cold sores or the better word is fever blisters. It is Herpes Simplex. They can be brought on by exposure to the sun,Accidentally getting mashed or pressed too hard like at a dentist, stress,or upset stomach. They can also pop up if you get a fever. If they are itchy, and are tingly, and also tender to touch they are fever blisters.

Sometimes a sunburn can bring on a cold sore, if you have already been exposed and have had them before. Try Abreva and keep your lips moist with a lip balm like Natural Ice.

Good luck.

Cold sore treatment is the use of over the counter anti-viral creams - Herpicin, Abbreva, etc. Any one of these will help dry the sores while they heal. Expect it to take at least 2 weeks for them to heal up.

Yes, that is definitely a sunburn. Try some medicated chapstick. If you go to the lipbalm section of your drug store, there are a couple of brands to choose from. The best thing you can do is moisturize them. It hurts though I bet!

Could be cold sores, but are probably sun blisters. Use Carmex.
