i think it's more like a humanity major. According to wikipedia: "Traditionally, the study of history has been considered a part of the humanities. However, in modern academia, history is increasingly classified as a social science, especially when chronology is the focus."
In most colleges, people put humanity and social science in the same category (and history is in that category) so it's not that big of a deal!
Well, if you care about the "big bucks" after finishing college, don't go with History. History is type of major you have to love and have passion for it! especially, those people who go to grad school for history, they have to love the subject cause they know that they don't care about the money after they finish, as long as they're happy with their career, that's all they need! Usually, the school will give some fund for grad student doing research in their grad years (if you're not international student and depend on schools too, some rich private uni pay off everything for your research so you don't have to pay that much!).

history is a social science. Learn to spell. I would suggest not worrying about history and go back to a 6th grade class and work on your basic spelling..basic grammar would also help...

When I was in college, it was considered a humanities course.
And yes, the pay offs for this are not great in relation to the cost of a higher degree-- so you are better off if you get a scholarship for it.
