An arch-rival is a person's principal competitior... like Professor Moriarty to Sherlock Holmes. The term often implies near equality and respect that makes the competition worthwhile.

I would love to see Concacaf do well. I don't think this match meant much. England was sluggish and won. Mexico proved they can't deal with taller players. I was impressed with Crouch's control of his lanky frame....I underestimated him. He brings a great deal to the English squad. Mexico outplayed England most of the match, but they lack finishing like every Mexican house you see in the Barrio. Mexico could be much better if they were the size of normal people. England needs to get cohesiveness. Rooney needs to have accurate passes sent to him to do what he can. England has a great defensive back line and average keeper. They need to control the midfield better. A creative player would really help. England looked like a team capable of getting to the last 8 ONLY based on it's back line. All missing starters won't change things much against top rivals. Both teams will have trouble in SA.

Archrival basically means your main rival. The person you are most competitive against (with) when it comes to boys, school, grades, friends, sports -- whatever. YOU WANT TO WIN AGAINST THAT PERSON MORE THAN ANY ONE ELSE!!

Your archrival is your biggest opponent. For example, the captains of two basketball teams playing each other for the championship game, or two top students fighting to be valedictorian.

I hope England win all of their pointless friendlies and feel all smug and confident like they normally do. Then they might struggle and won't know what hit them.
