If someone invites you to dinner, you should say, I'd love to visit, but I've already eaten. That way, if you don't eat anything, it wouldn't be considered rude. If however, you accept an invitation to dinner, I think it is considered impolite to not eat.

If it's a last minute invitation then let the person know right away that you've already had some food. They can't rightly be mad at you for not being hungry. If you were invited last week, then it's very impolite to not eat. You'll have to read the situation. No matter what some people will take offense. You'll just have to ignore these unreasonable people. For instance, a couple of weeks ago I was called a racist for not eating. I had informed the cook that I was already on my way to dinner when she invited me over for a drink. Some people are just plain crazy.

If you get a dinner invitation after you've already eaten, you tell that person you are sorry but you have already eaten. (Maybe you ask if you can come by for dessert?). But if you accept the invitation before you've eaten, do not go eat something before you go to dinner. Yes, you must eat something to be polite!

You can do a few things

1. Say that you've eaten already, but you'd love to take them up on their offer another time.
2. Eat lightly and tell them that you get full easily.
3. Have a full meal and get revenge by taking a hardcore dump in their bathroom.

in the first place, if you know that u are not going to eat anything if you go over there for dinner...WHY THE HELL ARE U GOING FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE?...its more impolite to go over in someone's house and not eat anything know that u had dinner already, than to just apologetically decline the invitation altogether in the first place.!

On the whole...I'd have to say yes...But then again it depends on the circumstances and factors that were involved. For instance was it with close family or friends? If it was... usually they would understand as they know you and know how you are, and they might not take it personally. If it was someone that went out of their way to cook you something...I'd have to vote a yes on that one! Food for thought (no pun intended)...Don't eat before you go to dinner.

I guess you got the invite after you ate? In that case, simply tell the person inviting you that you've already dined. Then offer to join them for dessert or after dinner wine.

Most etiquette books agree in this situation one should slowly stand
walk over to each person individually turn around and fart in their face. Only then can they understand they you've already eaten. Generally upon doing this people will laugh joyously, or perhaps clap, or say Encore! It's up to you... You can be rude and remain sitting or you can do the right thing, be a man, and start letting them rip.

Telling them you've already eaten would make them think "Hmm...something tells me this guy has something against me". You could eat a little bit of their food and maybe then use that line after you finished. At least they won't hear you say it before you tried their food...unless you're totally stuffed. You wouldn't want a stomachache.=)
