Hmmm, did you save it [first] to a folder on your desktop? Then from the desktop folder, did you double click on the object to have it install in your game? You should get a blue background message that states something along the line of "item has been successfully installed." This is for the TS2 site only. Not certain about other sites. Sorry :-(

Depending on which EPs you have, you might need to enable the custom content. That happens on the dial on the bottom left of the screen. The three dots. Click that and the two gears.

If you have EPs NL or OFB, it will allow you to turn off the custom stuff you get or to turn it on in the catalog. You can fix other screen settings there.

Otherwise, if you have the base sims and none of the EPs, it sounds as though you may have need to get the meshes for whatever you downloaded. In order for an object to appear in the game, it has to have a 'form' or mesh to appear with, and custom objects at most download sites do not automatically include the mesh - most sites will tell you what mesh you need. Depends on where you download things.

are you trying to download original sims objects, or objects created by other gamers? Go to modthesims2.com. It's a good site about creating and downloading objects.
