I think that it is really pretty and unique. It is common enough he won't be teased for it and unique enough that he should be the only one in his class with it. Some good nicknames could be:
Alex
Alessi
Andre
Andro
Sandro
Lesso

Nice name..

but still..

it could be easily misspelt, and the kid would find it difficult initially, and later in life, to have to keep correcting the spelling, and could also be ridiculed by peers who purposedly mispronounce the name.

Hi

Sounds very Latin American or Italian. But very nice. I would go for it, if I was from that area originally :)

It's ok but your son(?) will have to spell it repeatedly for everyone! Is your last name long also? If so, then I'd reconsider.

it is to much, a kid who had that name would always have to explain the spelling and sometimes even the meaning
