If you are receiving a fax, paper goes in the lower front of the machine. If you are faxing something to someone else, the paper goes face down in the upper rear of the machine. Like in a typewriter. You know how to feed a typewriter, right? Make sure the paper with the writing side faces toward the rear of the machine or the wall behind it. Place the paper(s) on the feeder and it'll take care of itself once you input the telephone number into the fax machine. You can go online to www.hp.com/support and it'll take you to technical support. Then put your machine name in the box, hit the double green arrows to the right of the box and it'll pretty much take care of itself. You just follow it's lead.
