I spent four years with a guy like this. I'm sure you love him, but you are not responsible for his happiness.

I would recommend you move on before he sucks the life out of you.

I've got one of those winners myself - bipolar possibly. I would give him a chance to do it without meds but look for clear signs of improvement. He needs to have a game plan including improved diet, exercise, psychologist (or lots of self help books). You need to agree on a date to go to plan B if plan A doesn't work.

Mine doesn't want to do a darn thing about his problem - he'd rather just be miserable and make everyone around him miserable with him. I've thrown in the towel. Depressed people take you down with them and life is way too short to be down all the time.

You cannot help him, and I know you want to help desperately. I have been married to a man that is and has been depressed for quite a while. He refuses to seek help and I am not qualified to help him. Until he decides to get help.. he will continue to be depressed. Good Luck.

I have a guy friend I'm very fond of, that's always depressed now. I send him daily readings of the bible, I send him roses, and tell him I love him, I also send him gospel music. I'm not sure what your friend likes. But just pray for him everything will be alright--continue to be there for him--he will appreciate it later. :)

Go to the library and look for information on helping your depressed friend. Be willing to listen, and if he mentions hurting himself, you need to tell someone in a position to help -- parents, a counselor, etc.

BOOK: The Feeling Good Handbook
I think it's by David Burns, but I'm not sure about that.

Ok. Then let him do it on his own. You can end-up depressed too.

Leave him be. When he's ready for your help, he will ask you. Just tell him that anytime he needs your help that you will be there.
