If you are connected to ISP number 1, and go into outlook and set your SMTP settings to ISP number 2's SMTP server/user/password settings, can you still send mail?

I'm having problems sending but not sure if this is the reason. Thanks

Is it possible somehow the SMTP server only works when you are connected to that server's provider? Still can't get it working. Maybe im behind too many firewalls or something.

If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. Generally speaking, you can connect to any server from anywhere if you have the right credentials, no matter what your ISP is. Now if you're asking if ISP#2's SMTP server can be used to send email for both ISP#1 and ISP#2, then the answer depends on your ISP. I think some might deny that, but some will allow it. I think most will allow it. Good luck!

it's VERY possible that you can only use an isp's smtp server if you're internet connection is via that isp.

i know this because my isp which i've been with for 8 years, some years ago i wrote a program to 'fake' the from field of an email and it used my isp's smtp server to send the mail. it now doesn't even work for me because my program never needed to login to the email server using my username and password.

this casual use of my isp's email server no longer works - and i've read this has happened pretty much across the board.

the reasons for this are obvious - to make it harder for spammers who use open email servers or stolen login information to send their messages.

if you found this helpful, 'accept' this answer.

Yes but who have to create a second profile in outlook so it saves the mail correctly and uses the preferences for the other provider.

I think you can't do it, except your second smtp is a web mail.
