I find that traditional P2P apps (KaZaA, Limewire, eMule, WinMX, eDonkey, Morpheus, Grokster, Gnutella, ect...ect...ect...) are not reliable because you are risking spyware and other nasty stuff trying to download copyrighted material. However there are a few exceptions.

DC++ is a very impressive hub software technology that basically connects you to one of several hundred "hubs" if you will, that may contain thousands, if not more, users/members who probably have what you are looking for. The installer can be found here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=40287&package_id=70036

Torrent files are becoming the new medium for more advanced users and generally contain more data, such as full-length movies and multiple music albums from an artist. There are many client software but among the popular are Azureus, Bitcomet and Bitlord.

If you need help concerning firewalls you can always check out PortForward - they have tutorials on how to open specific ports on your specific router and with the specific software involved. Definitely a good read:

Last but not least if you are having fun in a dorm or else behind a controlled LAN of some sort and DON'T have access to your school's/work's hardware firewall settings - do the next best thing and download via direct HTTP. If you are like me and anal about your bitrate/quality settings for MP3s you will DEFINITELY want to check out allofmp3 - it is a Russian based site that is an iTunes alternative for a *fraction* of the price and *NO* DRM music. I have an account there and I know a lot of people in the US use the site as well (because it was featured on digg.com.) Remember though, the legality of the site in the US is still in the grayhat area - I would check the latest wikipedia entry to find the current status.

Finally if you are still anal about your privacy and your anti-RIAA/MPAA ways there ARE ways to encrypt your data transmitted over the internet. Several anonomous proxies are available, albeit slow ones, so I would definetely check out the quality ones that charge per month or what have you.

Also don't forget to sign up for RIAA insurance! Lmfao!!!

If ur looking 4 sumthing with a different format from limewire, then do Itunes or urge (On the newest windows media player). but if ur looking 4 sumthing like limewire that's safer, get the free version of 360share at 360share.com. Most of the files R checked 4 viruses and stuff like that, so it's safer 4 the most part.

I have tried them all, but Limewire is the best. I have tried Kazaa and Bearshare and back in the day, Napster, but Limewire is the best.

Winmx hands down....Its way better than limewire, emule, edonkey, xolox, napster etc.....Plus, winmx doesnt have any spyware crap that installs itself when you set the program up...Yup, limwire installs spyware. Anyhow, go to download.com, and search for winmx. You wont be dissapointed!

I don't like Edonkey as well as I do Limewire, but you might give it a shot.
