I need ideas for things to do on the job! I babysit a 6 year old girl. I am 15 years old. I babysit her the whole day so we (more like I ) get bored really fast. I like kids but I'm not very good with being creative or playing pretend games lol. I've babysat her for a couple of weeks now and I've totally run out of things to do. She doesn't like to color. We cook a lot like cookies but that doesn't take up enough time lol. I've played "pet shop"--she loves animals. She comes to my house so it's not like all her toys are there so I have to entertain her. HELP!

Shaving cream mixed with food coloring - then she can make "finger paints" on a table. This won't hurt her clothing, it washes out nice and is fun to make different colors and make different paintings. My girls love this activity.
You can play some outdoor games (there are a lot of books at the local library you can borrow)
Play soccer (if she likes this game), teach her tennis if you know how to play, take her to a park and let her play on the equipment. Some parks are within walking distance and then she gets to play with others her own age.
Play hide and seek
Play tag
Jump rope games
Chalk games - draw a hopscotch, etc
Blow bubbles

I have the same problem except i have 4 kids to watch a 7 year old boy, a 6 year old girl, a 5 year old boy, and a 3 year old boy. It is alot easier to entertain them since there are more of them and they can play together, but i am also 15 and i get very bored too.

With one kid you could try playing games that would also help her with school.

I only had my 6 year old girl today because the boys' mom was off today. She really likes to cook and be creative. so we made popcorn balls with foodcoloring...it was pretty fun...but messy lol. Then we colored, that was peaceful and relaxing, and i got time to watch tv. She has been having alot of trouble learing her letters and since she is going into first grade I was working on them with her and we played a game wear you randomly choose a flashcard and you have to name the letter on it then say the sound that it makes (i know, it was kinda boring but it held her attention for a while lol)

Other times i have her help me make grilled cheese or whatever. We have a camera, she LOVES to take pictures. And one day when i was only watching the girl i had my friend over and we had a "girls night in kinda thing" where we did each others hair and nails and listened to her cheetah girls cd and did other girlie things. she really liked that.

But yeah i watch them all day too, so maybe we could share ideas. my email is kdancergirl@yahoo.com
good luck,
katlin

Like the other person said..the library...only take her with you..kids these days don't even know what a library is! Let her pick out some books for the week and have a movie for each day (to kill about 2 hours watching them) Now that school is starting you could help her with homework. If she likes animals watch the Animal Planet...if one is close by..go to the zoo. Help her write her own book. Buy a "Brain Quest" at JC Penney. Has a lot of trivia that would be fun.

Here are some games that I play with my kids:
1) When my daughter was two, I would sit her on the couch and say we were going to "Planet Kitty" where everybody turned into "cats" when they got there. So we would go around the house pretending we were cats. You can do other animals, too. And it also lets her get creative. It's funny to see what she'll do to pretend to be that animal.

2) A lot of little kids like simple games. My son loves to play outside. Play hide-and-go-seek a lot. But play it outside. It'll be much easier to hide and stuff, but make sure you hide in easy places. You can also play tag and stuff.

3) Buy cheap, sheer scarves and just act crazy with them. You can dance with them or dress up with them.

4) Raid your attic or basement! You can play dress-up with all of the old clothes, shoes, and hats. My kids love to go through my parents house and just put things on that look so funny! Sometimes they'll have "teaparties" with pretend cups and stuff.

Just make up some games or something. Go crazy! 6-year-olds are easy to entertain.

Go to the library before she gets there or after she leaves and pick out some books for you and her to read together. Paint her fingers and toes, go for walks around the neighborhood, get a blow up swimming pool and let her swim for a couple hours (or let her play in the sprinkler), do her hair all pretty and have her do your hair too. Since she likes animals, maybe one day instead of her coming over to your house you can both spend the day at the zoo. Just ask her what she wants to do and maybe she'll have some good ideas :-)

One thing I love to do when I was little was to make rainbows. Just take coffee filter and cut them into rainbows, put dots of marker on one end and dip them in water and them hold them so the marker runs and makes rainbows, you can also make really cool designs on the filters uncut too. Play board games--like candyland and really easy stuff, play-doh is always a good idea and its really cheap, do a fashion show with old clothes and take pictures. I loved playing teacher and store-my mom would let me take all of the groceries out of the kitchen and have a grocery store, have a tea party/juice party and dress up really sophisticated, playing hide and seek and tag are good bets too. If you have a park in your neighborhood or nearby go to the park, you can also make up scavenger hunts (kind of like blues clues...). Hope this helps......
