You grammar implies this is singular condition. If the 'idiots are missing, it would be more correct to say:
"most of the villages in Texas are entirely de-populated."
They call them ghost towns because most Texans don't have a ghost of a clue ... or so I am told by Buckeye fans ... (which I am not one of).
