Each atom of every element (except hydrogen) has protons and neutrons in the nucleus orbited by electrons.

The most common isotope of hydrogen, sometimes called protium, has just one proton orbited by one electron and no neutrons. One isotope of hydrogen, called deuterium, has one neutron. Another isotope, called tritium, has 2 neutrons.
