We've all seen people post "that's a stupid question!"

Consider this: If a person without knowledge in an area asks a question from within that area, how can that person determine the stupidity of their own question?

Questions are asked to learn things and questions aren't stupid in and of themselves BUT some people do not have the ability to even ask a question with some sort of intelligence. This indicates to me that that person's brain may be a little stupid. I haven't written to anyone that they have a stupid question but I have sure seen alot of stupid questions and I just cannot move myself to answer them. If they are so darn stupid they don't receive an intelligent answer from me. Guess it is true, like attracts like.

You got a point there. Well, as far as I know...no question is ever "stupid". Perhaps, people who say "that's a stupid question!" don’t have the inclination, willingness or capability to answer the question. Or well, they may not have the time to answer the question in the first place. Aristotle or Plato would not have agreed to the statement...."that's a stupid question!”

I love answering questions, the questions keep the bug called quest for knowledge buzzing all the time in me. But I have observed people on Y! Answers put very inappropriate questions that are no way related to the available categories here. Now that's a let down. Well, looks like some of the mortals here have very poor sense of judgment when it comes to categorizing the questions. Whatever, what matters is the knowledge that I/we gain in the process of answering the question and ultimately if answers appeal to the seeker (helps in whatever way possible), then I/we get to bask under 10 points and who can ignore the sense of immense satisfaction!!

In some parts of the world, the word Yahoo, means a dumb / stupid person. Therefor any person using this forum would be dumb, consequently all questions are stupid. End of story.

I agree: I'm fed up with people saying "That's a stupid question" or "You just wasted 5 points".

Frankly, if someone says that to me again, I would be tempted to report them under "Not a question/answer".

It's rude, time-wasting, and strictly speaking it is a violation of YA code of conduct.

Are you tempting someone to tell you that you asked a stupid question?

What's stupid to one person, isn't to another. What matters is that the person who doesn't know, is making the effort to make themself a smarter person.
