1. Don't bathe him too much. The more you bathe them the worse they will smell. Baths strip away natural oils from their skin and then their body works overtime to replace it, thus stinking more.
2. Feed them high quality food. They smell like what they eat, as does their poop. Feed them a food with a lot of fish and they are going to stink. And any low quality food will make a stinky ferret. Use this chart to choose the best foods: http://everythingfert.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=kristen&action=display&thread=1109195167.
3. Keep their bedding and cage clean. Wash the bedding as often as you need to. Wipe down the cage with a safe cleaner such as Nature's Miracle.
4. Keep thier litter box clean. Scoop it twice a day or more if you need to. Use woodstove pellets or Feline Pine for litter.
5. Keep their ears clean. Dirty ears stink.

Em (above) is right on target.
Ferrets that are bathed too often will only start to smell more and it's bad for their skin. My vet recommends that when I do bathe them (about every 3-4 months or if they get into something dirty) I use a hypoallergenic shampoo so that it won't irritate their sensitive skin.
Keep their bedding and cage clean.
Most ferrets will already be descented and neutered/spayed when you purchase them so that is probably not the issue here. Even after being descented most ferrets will keep a slight odor. This odor will not go away.
If you have ever owned a dog, you know that dogs smell like dogs even after a bath...ferrets are no different, lol.

I gave my 2 newish ferrets a bath yesterday and they still have that musky odor. From what I have read, they always have it. I shampooed them REALLY WELL and then conditioned them, and even then, right after a bath, they stink. The smell will get on my couches. I gave my son a hug and he stunk of ferret.

I would look into a dry shampoo ..maybe you can use that daily or close to it? Maybe they have a sort of ferret perfume that masks the odors? I dunno. But if my bath didn't clean off the scent, no matter what you do I would guess it will only mask odors.

Well you can have the scent glands removed, but since ferrets are carnivores, you'll never completely lose the smell.

I heard that they have glands somewhere on their bodies so all you have to do is get them removed... they also have these wipes and sprays that you can use on them, look at the pet store you'll find them.
