like on a Honda Civic Si. whats the difference between these? why do they do this?

To designate option packages.
DX is the entry level, LX and EX are higher up the value chain.
Power windows, doors, remote mirrors, radio-CD, etc were added.

DX had a base 4-cyl engine, while some of the upscale models had dual overhead cam engines - the Honda V-TECH.

Si was/is a sporty 2-door hatchback model, I think it also has the V-TECH.

Si and the rest of the Letters are totally different. Si is just one model that honda decided to make. The LX, EX, DX models are just
upgrade models.

its the manufacturers code of sorting the cars
for example BMW use the series thing take 745
the 7 represents the cars size 7 feet ... the 45 means 4500cc

every manufacturer has a different code that means different things. for the hunda im not really sure what it mean but it does have a meaning

They do it to superate options...Dx -bottom of the line- hubcaps...Lx -Plain college kid car -radio -air conditiong.......Ex- nicer features-available leather-V-6 engine........Si- top of the line power coupe- 195 hp-leather sport seats.....Nice...Also the bottom of the line Dx starts at about 13,500 and the top of the line Si starts at around 21,200

it refer to their trim packages....how they are set up(engine, transmission, interior options). For example, the dx is the stripped down model and the ex has most comforts..
