I believe that it's more motivation. Your motivation is usually coming from a belief in yourself. This belief in yourself can spawn new abilities and talents, or at least a desire to develop them and become more skilled.

My answer is motivation. Talent is nothing if you do not have the motivation to use that talent. If you wanted to become an expert at math, it takes education and motivation to learn it and get the degrees. If you want to become an expert at cooking, it takes motivation to stick through those trying times of failed recipes and thrown out food. So without motivation, no amount of talent will do a person any good.

Talent isn't something you need to become an expert in a certain field. Talent is what you obtain AS you become an expert in a certain field. You can't be an expert without talent, but that isn't the requirement. You need motivation. If you never lose that motivation, and you stick to whatever it is you do, talent will come on its own.
