Psychology is the science needed in order to understand how to heal a person's mental state. If you can heal a person's mind, you can heal their soul. If the soul is healed, anything is possible. The most excruciating pains aren't painful at all if your mind is healthy.

Because at times it can be a trial and error thing everyone is different. But Pavlov was on to something wasn't he?!
It eventually became clear that many chronic illnesses could have been prevented or at least managed better through modifications in behavior. This is when interest in health psychology started to multiply. It was found that approximately 350,000 heart attack deaths could be prevented each year through the cessation of smoking alone. Other controllable behaviors, such as lack of exercise and poor diet, have also been found to contribute to the onset of chronic diseases. Health psychologists have found that not only behavior has an impact on disease, but also attitudes and social factors. These factors combined to form the biopsychosocial model which guides the work of many health psychologists today.

OOOh so much to learn so many $$$ to make shame I'm not 20 again!! :-)

I have a BA in Psych and an MBA.

I think what's important about Psychology is the idea that we don't fully understand ourselves. I love that idea of essential doubt - it shows that nobody has a privilaged viewpoint and that all your knowledge is filtered through the lens of emotion. I love how one's dealing with the *other* is a way to be introduced to one's own subconscious. I find it amazing what cognitive researchers can discover about the mind and how it operates. I love that I was introduced to statistics - easily the most useful type of math out there (besides basic arithmatic). I love that it can bring healing to the troubled.

I'm biased too! I think because it's really the study of the human soul that makes it so incredible. Understanding why people do what they do is facinating. Seeing how a life can be changed by one wrong decision, one bad parent, one horrible trauma at times can be troubling. But, the light at the end of the tunnel is always hope.

it is pretty cool. that was my major in college before i dropped out. the funny thing is that people think it's more than what it really is. (i think they watch to much teli). being a psychologist and a psychic are two different things. lol

p.s. there are some who see it as a powerful tool to use on others. but it can only be practiced if they let you in. of course unless you're dealing with a real simpleton. then it's not hard, but anyone could do that.

i am not a psychology graduate but i took up a similar course back in college. i was a graduate of Behavioral Science and we have a lot of psychology subjects. i love all of the subjects especially Theories of personality. my favorite theorist is Alfred Adler (birth order, inferiority complex, etc.) i learned a lot from my major and my relatives even ask me to interpret their behavior!! it's amazing! i am currently working as a Human Resource practitioner and it feels good to be able to apply what i've learned back in college.

I was thinking of switching my History class for Psych. Because the history teacher is a jerk (so I heard on www.ratemyprofessor.com) But one of my friends discouraged me, because he said Psych is hard! Even though I will need it for my major eventually. I love learning about psychology. Do you recommend it?
