Please Dad (Michael Anderson)

As soft winds sweep away the days
I look back on life through a haze.
Remember playgrounds, parks and friends,
In childlike gaze that never ends.
The laughter in a game of catch,
Shall memory ever attach...
To innocence in youthful eyes,
Catching the ball to Dad's surprise.

I recall my first bike, first wreck,
Who picked me up, said, "What the heck?"
Convinced me to give one more try,
While, knees skinned, I forgot to cry.
Just the joy knowing he was there,
Making him proud my only care.
There was nothing I couldn't do,
My heart held fast that to be true.

Though teenage years were kind of rough,
I sure wasn't too big or tough.
You taught me to defend what's right
And never back down from a fight.
So I learned the hard way to stand,
Still, with each lump, I found your hand.
Drawing from you an inner strength,
And stubborn pride of equal length.

But there the line of fate was drawn,

This poem is pretty straight forward. In the first stanza, he talks about some of his early memories. They are indistinct and blurry, but the one that shine clears is the memory of the first time he caught the ball, a memory of his dad. In the second stanza, the memories continue to get stronger, and he demonstrates the the care and love his father gave and how it influenced him. In the third stanza, he admits to growing pains, but also admits to learning more of life lessons from his dad. The last stanza is cut off in the question, but by the first line of it I would have to guess either his father died or they had a falling out. But withouth the last stanza, it's like a story without an end. I hope that helps.

Its a man's remembering and honoring his father and the times they shared.

The last line seems cut off, as if the poem takes another turn here. I wouldn't be surprised if a tragedy took place in the next section and most likely a positive resolution at the end.

The beginning indicates a reflection from old age, so this may be a portrayal of a lifetime's experiences.

the whole poem is about celebrating what his father has done for him. he recollects his childhood through vivid imagery to enhance this.

rhyming couplets are used to determine the tone: it is not meant to be sombre. it is instead a rather innocent recollection of not only the importance of a father to a child or son, but to the whole idea of paternity.

...

it also demonstrates change. the poem relies on a various array of poetic constraints such as the consistent use of rhyme and metre. this shows not only the poet's ability and his maturity thereof, but it shows more importantly how he has changed from the innocent and uncontrolling narrator in the poem.

it praises the father directly through the poem and praises him through structure and language.

well the great thing about petry you can make it out to be watever you want. in my opinion it says that they miss their chilhood and how there only concern was making their parents pround...thn teen years came and thosewere pretty rough but remembering the chilhhood got that kid through the tough times.

It's about someone remembering their childhood with their Dad.
And thinking how much he influenced that person.
Then he died.
