an earned run is a run the offense earned by getting on base by either a hit or a walk, while an un-earned run happens when an error takes place in which the eventual scorer should have been out

an earned run is when its the pitches falut the runners score and they r on base...in otherwise he walks a guy and then gives up a 2 run HR. thats 2 earned runs becuase he is responsibale for both hitters..but now lets say the 1st batter inteasd of walking reaches on an error...he should not b on base so when the next batter hits a HR. the pitcher is charged with 1 earned run...and one run... becuase it was not his fault the first runner reached base...hope that helped

the name pretty much says it all

earned runs r when the offense gets hits or sacrifices to score runs

unearned runs r when the defense lets runners score or get on base by walking the batter or making errors
