They both use springs, with the exception that electric guns are usually fully automatic.

Spring guns require you to recock the gun between EVERY shot. This is pretty much useless if you're in a scrimmage, and shouldn't even be considered in a sidearm.

Electric guns (AEGs) are the most popular kind of guns that serious airsoft owners use.

However, if you just wanna get a pellet shooter, I recommend getting a gun online, and not through big5 or any sporting goods store.

Oh, another difference? Price.....
Usually spring guns are cheaper.

Well, happy hunting.

The gangster above me pretty much explained the difference, but I'll explain more.

In a spring gun, a spring goes back and stays locked, and when you fire it, the spring flies forward, and a poof of air forms behind the BB as it goes happily out of the barrel towards it's intended target.

In an electric gun, a spring goes back and stays locked, and when you fire it, the spring flies forward, and a poof of air forms behind the BB as it goes happily out of the barrel towards it's intended target.

The difference: an electric gun has a motor that pulls the spring back at high rates, and a spring gun has a human that pulls the spring back at low rates.

One uses a spring to launch the projectile while the other uses a electronically produced burst of air to accomplish the task?
