I live next to the ocean, my tools are inside a toolshed, but they still get a coat of "rust" because of the salt-air. I put light oil on most, but not pratical on things like desk fans, tables with metal nuts and bolts/screws and so on.

It's not the moisture that's causing the rust, it;s the salt in the air. When buying nuts, bolts, and screws purchase stainless steel parts. Beyond that, clean the existing hard ware to remove the salt, and apply a product called "Rust Inhibitor".

Air movement, and lots of it. If you keep lots of air circulating in there, via a fan, the water will evaporate quickly. No moisture, no rust.

Excuse me, Uncle Bob...I thought rust was iron oxide. The oxygen, of course, comes from the H2O. It is true that salt can act as a catalyst, and can help make a sacrificial anode out of an iron-based metal, but nothing happens without moisture.

You have to choose between a lot of maintenance.
Cleaning, oiling, painting etc of your tools or replacing them
sooner.
When you store them in a shed if the shed is shut up most of the time dampness builds up. You need to change the air over more.
Just going in & out helps this. Leaving the shed open on the dryer days is good.
