I only really know Bukowski via his Henry Chinaski (sic?) character. I know he really was a drunk (what geniuses aren't?) and not a fan of society. I saw a great special on the Biography channel and it was sad. I highly recommend picking up one of his biographies. His writings are so beautiful and sad. Though, one thing I think is negative that I never want to drink for a couple of weeks after I read his stuff. I just imagine him a drunk, sweaty, fat old man. Drunks always think they're studs.

Bukowski had, aside from his heavy drinking problem, a terrible trouble with his skin. 'Acnae vulgaris' - these were huge acne all over his face and body. He had this since youth, so I can't imagine someone looking like that to be a 'stud'. Sure did like women, though.
P.S. - was even married, for the rest of his life (wife also a drunk)
