Prevailing knowledge? religion? though it is true that Filipinos are religious, religion hardly plays any part in their everyday lives anymore; science? with hardly any budget and getting a higher education not being in the list of priorities by the majority of the population, how could it be; politics? the people are already tired of hearing about this in the new, it's just the same old stuff; What the people are mostly concern is SURVIVAL, how to go through the day with whatever resources that they have. They depend on themselves to make ends meet and not on anybody or anything that just gives empty promises.

Maybe, for us to know what knowledge prevails or dominates a certain territory like the beatiful P.I., you need to know the predominant characteristic of your current population in terms of age groups, economic status and education to name a few. From what i know, P.I. has a very young population (a generation of hiphopers, r&bs, text messengers, etc.) at the same time you have a very high poverty index (people who are probably hooked to jueteng and some sort of underground gambling systems, baby-making activities due to laid-back lifestyle), but a highly educated population. Maybe, if we are to combine these few discussed attributes, we will be seeing a married, young, college kid holding a baby, a cellphone, a 'tarheta', classified ads, and a list of 'utang'. What sort of knowledge would such a kid possess? Perhaps, it's the real and inevitable SCIENCE of survival, the homebased POLITICS of numbers game, the habit of RELIGIOUSLY checking the inbox and outbox, things which may tend to make somebody purposively or untintentionally ignore all the issues and agendas at the national level. Talk to folks from the slums, or the barangays, and try to get the real picture. It may not be as bad as I may have theorized it. Have a safe one!
