x - 4x = 12 can be rewritten as -4x + 1x = 12
Therefore -3x = 12
Divide both sides by -3 and you end up with x = -4

no, it's -4.
when you see just x in there, it means 1x. so 1x-4x= -3x.
-3x=12 x= -4
The people answering these questions are unbelievably bad, I'm sorry.

Do your own homework....otherwise its cheating. You'll learn more if you don't ask other people to do your own homework.
