I recently have been having some computer issues where it locks up from time to time. The other day while looking at a web page my computer shut off and restarted. When it loaded my Icons, some were missing, my walpaper was gone and when I went to IE it loaded fine but my favorites were missing and so were my documents. I did a restore to the previous day with no luck. We have tried everything but still cannot get my favorites or my documents back. I have windows XP. I would appreciate any help in finding these as I have important info on both.

I have had some great answers and did all that you have said but there is nothing in my favorites folder, somehow it just vanished. I did not delete nothing. I also do not have my original my documents either. Each time I do what people have said I have nothing in the folders.

RIGHT-click the My Computer icon, select Explore. Click down to c:\documents and settings. You should see Administrator, All Users, Default User and probably 1 or 2 other folders. Click on the + next to the folder that corresponds to the ID you normally login too, there may be another one that has .000 after it as well. you should see more folders listed, specifically Desktop and
*Favorites which should contain the icons and stuff you want. just copy them to your current desktop.

maybe if theres is a file or a song or photo in your documents that you can remeber the name of and search for it? Make sure its an advanced search with sensitive tape backup clicked, i know it sounds silly but once i deleted one of my accounts on xp and i couldnt find the stuff on that account at all, for like months, it was not in the documents and settings, all users etc . but i did a .jpg search and i found what id lost! and all my other stuff too, i cant remeber exactly where it was but it was somewhere to do with system restore files good luck :)
