You may have to hurt her feelings. I tried not to hurt girl's feelings when I was young, until one of them stole a bisexual boyfriend from me, knowing we had been together at the time for over a year -- and said "Well, you were just gay, why are you upset, its not like your relationship mattered."
I suggest that you either tell her point blank, or just tell her you are NOT interested in being more than friends. Be VERY clear. Not being very clear will cause far more pain and hurt for everyone including you in the long run.
Just tell her no.

or use my favorite like "its not you, its me"
you don't need to give her more information than she need to know do you? unless she's very serious about your relationship then you should break up in the most vague way you can to avoid a rather sticky situation. If you are committed then tell her the truth and make sure you make her understand it wasn't anything she did that made you turn to guys.

You just have to tell her that it's not about her, it's about you and the fact that you are gay. That's it. If she were a guy, you'd talk to her about it, but since she's not, and that's the one thing you want in the world, a boyfriend, you have to move on! You were gay before you met her, and you are still gay, and you always will be gay.

you have to be honest and sincere and just tell her. you love her as a friend...but you're gay. do it sooner than later before she has deeper feelings for you.
