I don't think it is about being intolerant of other races or their legal status. Is has a lot to do with the way in which people do things. So you entered the country illegally? OK, so what? You came into the country, worked hard and made something good for yourself. But you are on of very few. I am a natural born American. I went to college and paid for my education. I spent years paying back thousands of dollars in student loans. I work 12-14 hours a days just watch the people down the street live off my tax money. I have to drop my children at a baby sitter's everyday. They spend all day with theirs. My children fend for themselves to complete their homework assignments. They get to help theirs. I throw dinner together for my children each night. They can cook a decent meal every day. I drive my old Honda Accord everyday. They drive a new one.
I am sorry, but some just isn't right with that picture. You worked very hard for what you have and I commend you. I worked very hard for what I have as well. Unfortunately, many don't. THAT IS WHAT I AM INTOLERANT OF.

Because illegal immigrants take advantage of the United States. People from other countries do not have the right to send their kids to our schools, or depend on our hospitals for free.
You are the exception, not the rule. We need people like you, but to come over legally. I hope that you don't hire illegals for your business. To do so is to take advantage of the government for the welfare of your workers.
There is a racial angle, but only because Mexican and Central American immigrants are a bigger burden on our schools and hospitals then the average Irish or Eastern European illegal immigrant. And, thus far, illegal immigrant criminals from Spanish speaking nations have caused more problems (such as gang violence and vandalism) then any other immigrant group.

Fear. Fear of being overwhelmed, undermined, unemployed - the list goes on. Life is unfair and when people feel powerless they tend to focus on solid, simple issues that they can understand and react to. The media feeds the trends - What shall we make the general public paranoid about today? Shall we terrify them with the high probability of a theoretical and devastating terrorist attack? Or bamboozle them with statistics about how the U.S will have a Hispanic majority in a few years? Immigrants are real, the terrorists are virtually invisible - it is easier for people to get mad about what they can see.
We are all scared for ourselves and our families in one way or another, many of our collective reactions are not nice, but it is natural, human nature I suppose.
I'm glad you took your chance and made a success of your business, good luck for the future.

If that's all true, congratulations! You're living the American dream... but why not get your citizenship now? Its never too late, and it is something else that you can be proud of. A good friend of mine from Ghana, her husband and her two kids just got their citizenship, and we had a big party, drinks, etc. It was awesome. Even though we've been friends for a while, I now feel closer to her somehow....
Do what you want, but consider all of the good things that you get with citizenship :-)

Why did you not become "Legal?" When you crossed the border, you violated our federal law. Your Government would not tolerate us "swarming" into Mexico illegally.
