Should I (yes my tax dollars) give descendants of slaves money? My ancestors were not even here when slavery took place. Moreover, the vast majority of slaves taken out of Africa were sold by African rulers, traders and a military aristocracy who all grew wealthy from the business. How about reparations from their descendants?

How about reparations for the descendants of Native Americans, Irish, Polish, Russians, Asians and the geeks in the playground when they were persecuted!

I'll just open my wallet for every whiner. OK?

Blacks (and some other ethic groups) really STARTED to get a decent break after WWII. There has been a LOT done for them since, by individuals, charitable foundations, church groups, unions (once the unions found that blacks were going to be card-carrying members and HAD to be represented), by large and small businesses, and by all levels of government. Blacks have come a long way, and some of them still have a way to go, but at this point "reparations" are inapproriate and an insult to both the giver and the recipient. Now they need to stand up and earn their own way, just like everyone else, or new immigrants will run over them.

No. Slavery was clearly wrong but so is the asking of reparations for many reasons.

I don't agree with reparations. No one alive today was alive then so what good would it really do? Would it cure racism? I don't think so.
