What is the connection between moral character and politics?

Unfortunately nowadays there is little if not any connection to moral character in politics, i.e. Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski. Habits are things that you have done for so long that you do them automatically. Some habits can be good like looking both ways before you cross the street, but some habits can be bad like picking your nose and eating the goodies or sucking your thumb. Moral character is something that is taught or instilled into a person by teaching or living circumstances, i.e. a mother teaching her child not to steal or lie or having something stolen from you and deciding after that to never do that to anyone. A habit can stem from moral character like always telling the truth.
