Cheer up. Everybody was new at their job at one point. Today was a training day, right? You'll chalk it up to first day jitters and be brilliant tomorrow. Now, go eat some cheesecake (always works for me).

I know exactly how you feel. Today was my second day at my new job and the young women training me has only been their 4 months. When I was asking her some questions about the company she didn't know some of the answers and I felt confused. It sucks. I answer the phone, but sometimes I am afraid/nervous to answer it, because I don't have full knowledge about the company in its entirety and my trainer does not either. If things don't look up by the end of the week I will consider looking elsewhere. If I can give it another try and show up tommorow so can you. He wants you to show up tommorow then he is giving you a chance and he knows it was just your first day. Try it out for couple days and see how it goes. I wish you the best of luck.

Yes you are ok for tomorrow. Listen, take each day as it comes. We all make mistakes. My old boss.. a right cow.. told me off and gave me extra training for losing 2 grand.. Two companies with the same name and near each other..they clawed it back.. but i found out later on that year that she had lost the council 20,000 in the same day on a delivery of fuel for the council lorries.. used me as an excuse to cover her tracks.. tax payers money..

So everyone makes mistakes. You just froze when the phone rang. Write down on your palm what you must say when you answer the phone.. then take a message for the right person.. once you have done it right you will relax and I am sure will one day be heading the dept.

Good luck.. and I hope you don't have a sleepless night tonight..xxxxxxxx

Oh you poor thing - first day's always suck!

You just need to have confidence in your abilities. Start the next day by walking in with a big smile for all and a cheery good morning. Hold your head up high and exude confidence - even if you don't feel that way!

When the phone rings - answer it - it won't be as bad as you think! You may feel self conscious the first few times but trust me, this will soon wear off.

The best way to learn is to be thrown in at the deep end - so go for it girl - have faith in yourself and you will be amazed at what you can do!

You are not an idiot. Everyone has a tough time on the first day on a new job. He told you he needs to teach you to get on the phone which is no big deal. He wants you back tomorrow. You will be fine. Good luck on your new job and I hope all is well for you.

Phone protocol is tricky. Just recently I read an article in the trades discussing how one bad employee on the phone can cost a company huge business. If you don't know the company's phone policies, you made the right call by not answering.

You are in training, and if they want you to do something, they should show you what and HOW to do it. If they don't, and you don't do it their way, then they have no one to blame but their trainers.

You may get another chance but that is really a bad way to conduct your life. If you're supposed to be there, and you want to keep your job and your credibility, you must be there, unless you're in the hospital or something serious like that.

Learn a lesson here because the business world has plenty of others waiting for that job.

Don't worry about it! No one is born knowing how to do a job on the first day. Tomorrow just show up on time and smile a lot and don't be afraid to ask questions. This will show a positive attitude and willingness to take direction. You will do great!

you were just nervous! they call it training for a reason! chalk it up to a bad first day, and try to do better tomorrow! after all, the first day is the hardest! now you can go back in there, you already know some people and the basic routine, now you just have to get settled in! you'll be fine! trust me!

Dont worry man, everyone feels stupid about something that happens the first day. Just start taking some initiative from now on. Confidence is the key to success.
