Japanese is what is commonly referred to as an "orphan" language, which means it is not in any way connected to or related to any other language in the world. While this is not entirely accurate (it has connections to Chinese and Korean, not to mention recently it has begun assimilating foreign words into its lexis), it is true that fundamentally, Japanese is extremely different than Western languages. There was a linguist who put it well. She said learning Japanese is like being a baby again. You have to start all over, and assume you know nothing. I've found the people who can do that have an easier time than those who are constantly trying to relate it to their own first language.

#1 it's nihongo. the japanese language is hard because there are too many characters in the language in which not all are learned ne ways. the language itself is complex from the writing and speaking point of view. the sentences are jumbled because it does not follow the english structure. My best advice is to keep trying because eventually it will get easier to read and write. Then the speaking you can improve later on.

I think its hard because the alphabet is so different from the English alphabet. Also, you really need to practice it and converse with a native speaker to get it- using it naturally and in context. It can be hard to find someone willing to spend that kind of time working with you.
