Funny how people equate Latin with Spanish as if Latin was a synonym of Spanish... ridiculous. The Latin languages are Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Romanian (and Catalan). So how do you define a Latino? I'm assuming a Latino is a Latin-American as in a person of from an American country where a Latin language is spoken.
So yes Haiti is in Latin America whether you like it or not so is Brazil where they speak Portuguese (Brazilian) or even French islands where they speak French and for all incredulous and skeptics Haiti is officially part of the Latin Union (see for yourself on their website http://www.unilat.org/SG/Organisation/Presentation/EtatsMembres/index.fr.asp) . Being a Latino [American] has nothing to do with the colour of your skin but all to do with what language you speak.

It wouldn't make her Latina if her parents are both Haitian, as it is not a Spanish speaking country. The other side of the island, the Dominican Republic, speaks Spanish and is therefore Latin. My husband is Haitian (quarter blood French) and I cannot see by any stretch why he would be Latino, nor does he consider himself African. The island used to be called Hispaniola and it was entirely Spanish speaking, but that was hundreds of years ago. Oh and by the way, if she was born here, she's an American, or one could say Haitian-American, which is what I consider my daughter. If she was born there, then she would just be Haitian. It's funny to me that people try to lump all black and Caribbean people as African. To be African, you need to be from Africa.

well ur friend is mistaken, unless 1 or both of them is Hispanic, she's not Latino, she's black and white, that's all, depending on what type of European her father's background is, is it a Spaniard, french? English? is her black mother a Spaniard or french or English? are they black Africans or white Africans?
the reason people speak Spanish as well as french there is because Haiti is on the same island as Dominican republic, there's nothing to separate that, and if u went to school u would know that the Spaniards stole the island fron the natives that were there first, the french did the same thing, then they all fought and half went to the french, the other half to the Spaniards-- does it even matter?

being myself a latina, i was not sure about this, but by definition i guess hatians are latinamerican. this is more about geography than about race.
Oxford dictionary says:
latin: relating to the countries or peoples using language (specialy Spanish) that developed from latin (as in the ancient language)
