There isn't much evidence- only eye witness accounts and photos. The best photo taken many years ago turned out to be fake. There has to be more solid evidence such as carcasses, more clearer pictures, videos, etc. If the Loch Ness monster is a reptile then it couldn't survive in the climate of Scotland unless, it is warm-blooded like the dinosaurs. Also there isn't many food sources it could live on in that lake. The monster could be a plesiosaur, as it closely resembles one. But the plesiosaur was thought to have died out along with the dinosaurs.
The coelacanth was thought to be extinct 65 million years ago, but a living one was caught by a fisherman years ago. But, it is smaller than the loch ness monster and lives in the deeper parts of the ocean. So it can't be much compared. But then there is the giant squid. It was thought to be a sailor's folktale until bodies started to appear on the sea shores of many places. It was finally caught on tape a liitle more than a year ago. So there's hope for the loch ness monster.

Well, there are legends of some sort of big-*** animal in Loch Ness dating back over a thousand years, so chances are that there is something (or more likely somethings) in that lake. But the story of it being a plesiosaur has no basis in fact. The photo that got everyone so convinced it was a plesiosaur was in fact a hoax, done by attaching a long rubber neck to a mini-sub and photographing it so it looked it was way out in the water. So it could be anything from a marine reptile to mammal to even a huge fish, but there's probably something.

Fiction.
That lake is not large enough to hold a viable population of large animals in isolation for so long.
The Coelacanth lives in the sea, which is deeper and a tad larger,
and several one were caught. Nothing has even been captured in the Loch Ness that looks like a monster. And people have tried.
Several times. With elaborate equipment.

haha well I think its actual existance is fiction, and here is why...
I remember reading an article published in my local newspaper that said that the famous picture of Loch Ness may actually be the trunk and head of an Indian Elephant. Apparently there were circuses thta frequented the area around the time that that famous picture was taken. Supposedly, the trainers of these elephants would allow them time to swim in the Loch aftre their performances, and many people would gather around for more photos. I think that if one person had this amazing shot and was planning on turning it into a hoax, then mission accomplished...

Fiction, of course! The best photo is the "Surgeon's Photo", and it is a hoax, as the man who took it admitted years later. All photos have more mundane explanations than plesiosaurs still living. A Coelocanth is a fish, so it never needs to surface and can remain undiscovered a long time. A Plesiosaur is a reptile that must surface often for air.

I guess there is always the possibility but almost all of the pictures and video of the supposed beast can be explained by natural phenonmenon or optical illusions. If a creature like Nessie survived all of these millions of years, there would have to an entire colony of these things in the water. Scientists have concluded that there is not enough marine life to support such a large organism and no bodies have ever washed up, etc.

Look buddy, I was there. That Loch is narrow, you can see everything across it. That Loch is well populated. People are everywhere, it's not like some remote place. And the Loch is still and quiet... You could easily spot anything unusual... and there's nothing unusual there... nada, zippo.. Even the people who have lived there all their lives will tell you that they've never seen it.

Most likely fake.
Check out this article from National Geographic a while back, it says that the famous Nessie photo could be the trunk of an elephant.
