Well, assuming I should take you literally, the "fowls of the air" were God's first creation. So, the literal answer is the chicken... or, more specifically, the chickenS... which REALLY simplifies the "age-old question"... assuming that I'm to take you metaphorically, God DID create the rooster (Adam) first. Adam was the "creation"... Eve, made from Adam's rib, was an afterthought...

Wow can't some of these idiots read?
To answer your question which relates to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden...
The rooster was first, then the chicken, and last the eggs.
BTW if you use the phrase "in evolutionary terms..." you arent answering the question relating to Adam and Eve now are you?!?!?!

im_the_coolest isn't the smartest.... becuse the question "relates to adam and eve" doesn't mean that the answer has to support that view. in fact, by presenting both views, we are acknowledging the controversy
if one believes in god creating all the animals, then the chicken came before the egg.
BUT
since evolution never happens to an existing animal, only through the genes to the offspring then the egg came first
since there are so many different creation stories found throughout the world (see link), one can not accept any one as true with authority and since all the available empirical evidence points so strongly to evolution anyway than we should declare the egg came first

Well, the Bible says that He created two of every living thing, male and female and told them to be fruitful and multiply. So eggs are the fruit.
God created Eve for Adam. Adam was first, Eve second and they had children. Their fruit.
