Eddie Van Halen is currently a better guitarist than Jimi Hendrix, because dead people can't play guitar. Though one might argue that Eddie died in 1984.

A more relevant question would be Jimi Hendrix or James Page.
"His landmark guitar solo from the song "Heartbreaker" has been credited by Eddie Van Halen as the inspiration for his trademark two-hand tapping technique after he saw Led Zeppelin perform at the LA Forum in 1972."

JIMI HENDRIX..... Eddie Van Halen plateaued as a guitarist 20 years ago and either decide he didn't need to get any better or couldn't!

Jimi is the best guitar player but he played the guitar when he was high. So it does mean jimi was high all the time. EVH isnt even close to being as great as jimi hendrix tho. So my pick is Jimi Hendrix!

Eddie has talent and diversity, but Hendrix had the vision. I vote for Jimi.

That's tough, because Jimi went out in his prime. If he would've lived longer, who knows how advanced electric guitar would be. Personally, I like Eddie, but I've seen him in concert three times, and he becomes "one" with his guitar. Jimi plays in a little more bluesy style, and Eddie plays in a rock style. It's not really a fair comparison.

I loved Jimi, but Eddie has more into it......longer lifespan giving us more music. Maybe not the flair that Jimi had (which he did have flair), but he has invested more time to the craft. Eddie being one of the all time great guitarists is still not getting the credit he deserves.
