First, you need to get all of the numbers with the variable on one side of the equal sign, and all of the numbers without the variable on the other. So...first lets get all of the numbers without the variable moved to the left side.

You already have 2.1 on the left and you need to get -1.9 over there. It is a negative while it's on the right side, because the subtraction sign is in front of it...BUT, when you move it across the equal sign to the left, that sign changes to a positive...so, you will add 2.1 and 1.9.

Now you have 0.1p+your answer = 4.6p+0.5p.

Because you have two numbers with variables on the right side now, you can add them to get one number, so you will now have

0.1p+ your first answer = 4.6p + 0.5p added together.

You need to get 0.1p to the other side. Because there is no negative sign before the 0.1p, it is a positive number, BUT it will become a negative when it crosses the equal sign. SO...you will have to subtract 0.1p from the answer you have on the right.

Once you get one number on each side of the equal sign...one WITH a 'p' and one without, you will divide one into the other and that will be your answer.

P = your answer

0.1p+2.1=4.6p-1.9+0.5p
0.1p-4.6p-0.5p=-1.9-2.1
-5p = -4
p=?
if you cant get the last step too bad and by the way learn math seriously this was so simple

This looks like homework. I won't give you the answer to this particular problem, but here's an example worked out for a similar equation:

Step 1: 0.2p + 4.2 = 9.2p - 3.8 + 1.0p
Step 2: 4.2 + 3.8 = 9.2p + 1.0p - 0.2p
Step 3: 8.0 = 10.0p
Step 4: p = 8.0 / 10.0 or p = 0.8

Just isolate the p variables to one side of the equation and the constants to the other side.

0.1p + 2.1 = 4.6p - 1.9 + 0.5p
0.1p - 4.6p - 0.5p = -1.9 - 2.1
-5p = -4 (Multiply both sides by -1)
5p = 4 (Divide both sides by 5)
p = 0.8

Check:
0.1(0.8) + 2.1 = 4.6(0.8) - 1.9 + 0.5(0.8)
0.08 + 2.1 = 3.68 - 1.9 + 0.4
2.18 = 2.18

I won't give you the answer, but the methodology for solving these types of equations is to isolate the unknow variable. You'll need to add, subtract, multiple, and/or divide the numbers to get to the value of 'p'.

Good luck!

okay here we go...
.1p+2.1 =4.6p - 1.9 + .5p
4 =5p
p =4/5

0.1p+2.1=4.6p-1.9+0.5p
0.1p-4.6p-0.5p=-1.9-2.1
-5p=-4
p=-4/-5
p=4/5

0.1p+2.1=4.6p-1.9+0.5p
2.1=4.6p-1.9+0.4p
4=4.6p-0.4p
4=4.2p
4/4.2=p
