I'm thinking about getting an IUD called Paragard. It is nonhormonal. Does anyone have any thoughts on this???

I have the Merina and wouldn't recommend it. I developed ovarian cysts the size of a tennis ball TWICE. I found out after the fact that cysts can be a side affect of the Merina. (Not sure it they are a side effect of the Paraguard). Also, I bled (spotting) for the first 9 months, which I was told was normal. Another thing to consider is that sometimes my husband can feel the "thread" hanging down during intercourse. He says it feels like fishing line poking him. ((Ouch!!))

There are positives to an IUD, but for me, they don't outweigh the negatives. I've had mine for 2-1/2 years and I'm actually getting it out tomorrow.

I've got a 5 year IUD called Mirena, I got it after the birth of my son and I really like it. Your periods are spotty for the first 6 months but then they seem to happen every 80 or 90 days which is nice. It is a ultra low dose of progesterone.
They say this new generation of IUDs are safe and have been prescribed in Europe for 10 years. I've had mine for almost 5 years and I'll get a replacement for it soon.

IUDs do work but they have risks...the whole idea started from the days when they would put stones inside camels to prevent them from procreating...charming no?

But anyhow I remember someone saying once that they did a study and after 5 years it completely changed the lining of the uterus. I don't know if they are made 'better' these days but talk about all the risks with your doctor or research online.

I have the mirena iud. It is the greatest invention next to tampons! My periods are lighter but longer. No cramps hardly ever. Never a worry. It does not hurt going in and I love it.
