Actually, it was Dr. Tom Van Flandern (his name is spelled incorrectly even in the video presentation) who presented this 'evidence' of ancient structures. Dr. Van Flandern is currently involved in a group of 'metaresearchers' who investigate things that the 'mainstream' scientific organization has dismissed because the findings are outside the status quo.

If Dr. Brian O'Leary was involved, he doesn't seem too keen on the idea now. There is no mention of this anywhere on his website. Although he never made it into space, Dr. O'Leary was involved with NASA as a 'scientist-astronaut' in a project that was cancelled before it ever really got going. Today he lives in Equador to avoid the growing fascism of the United States and lectures on creating a new science of consciousness, development of non-polluting energy sources, and forming a global green democracy. He is very keen on the ideas of free energy, healing and the interaction of consciousness with the environment.

Most of the evidence presented as 'proof' of life existing on Mars consists of photos of the infamous Cydonian face, enhanced to bring out the features resembling a human face, and concluding that any structure that can be enhanced to look that symmetrical must be symmetrical, and therefore must be of artificial origin. Since this 'proves' that the face is an artificial artifact, then the other structures nearby that kinda, sort-of in the right light slightly line up with the side of the face, must also be artificial, since they already proved the face was artificial.

Much of the other evidence includes pictures of radial, fractal growths, tubes, tracks, crenulations and other features that are claimed to be impossible in nature without life, despite the fact that crystal growth (snowflakes, quartz crystals, salt deposits etc.) exhibit the same patterns on Earth without life, and there are many volcanic features that create similar tubes, T-shapes, elongated oval sinkholes and other shapes without any biological input whatsoever.

There are also a number of geographic features visible in the photos of the Martian surface that bear resemblance to seahorses, dolphins, critters with antlers or horns, birds and other things. The video claims these are also proof of artificial origin, even though most of them bear no more resemblance to the purported nouns they represent than your average cloud, mountain formation or astrological constellation does to a castle, dragon, sleeping man, giant bear or centaur archer.

Also, the fact that this video might have been presented on ABC, CBS and FOX News says more about the credibility of mainstream network news sources than it does about the veracity of the claims in this video.

While life on Mars is an exciting prospect, and worthy of research, the evidence presented by Dr. Van Flandern in videos, presentations and papers has far more parsimonious explanations in the fields of geology than biology.

This website has a large list of links regarding not only the "Face on Mars" but what many people say are strange structures in the entire Cydonia region of Mars. ==>http://www.controversial-science.com/artifacts/cydonia.html

This website presents the series of photos of the "Face on Mars," beginning with 1976 up to the latest in 2001. Even if the actual face seems to be discredited, the uniform, geometric shape of its surroundings still look kind of weird.

You might also get a kick out of the "Happy Face" crater on Mars. See photos at this website ==>http://science.nasa.gov/current/event/ast12mar99_1.htm

I can believe ther was and may be still some form of life on mars but the face was a hoax, pics of the same spot on the surface at different sun angles show that it was an illusion and the image cannot be duplicated.

It wasn't really a structure it just looked like one because of the angle of the sun when the picture was taken. When taken from a differnet angle it is obvious that the 'structure' is just a bunch of hills.

there could have been life on mars, but then again there is no water, and limited oxygen. the idea of little green men is good because maybe the martians there eat by using photosynthesis and maybe water exists underground because there is proof that water once existed on mars.
