Andrea,

It is very important that you understand the vocabulary of math.

Factoring an expression or number is a process performed on an expression whereas solving refers only to equations or inequalities. You will not see the direction "solve" when you have an expression. Solving means to find the value(s) of the variable(s) that make the equation(s) or inequality(ies) true. You do not do that kind of thing when you have an expression.

Now, a factor is a number that is used to determine a product. Hence, in the expression 2xyz, the 2, x, y and z are factors. In the expression 2 + x - y + z, the 2, x, y and z are terms. Factors are multiplied together and terms are added together. Work on knowing your math vocabulary as hard as you would working on your Spanish vocabulary. Good luck

I'm assuming you mean factor and you solve them by finding the "common" numbers or letters in each side of the equation (example: 20xy+10x) and dividing both sides by that. 20xy+10x would factor by having using 10 to divide both sides and get:
10(2xy+x) because 20 divided by 10 is 2 and 10 divided by 10 is 1. Then we take out the same letters or variables. Since x is in both sides we can put it outside with the 10 and get: 10x(2y+1). The one is there because 10 divided by 10 is one even though the x was taken outside the one is still left behind. Good luck.
