I was asking why do guys wear "wife beaters" under their shirts in the summer time (being that it's so hot), because I thought that they should only wear them in the winter time (for an extra layer under their clothes)???

It collects the sweat and actually keeps us cooler.Strange, I know, but actually pretty effective.

keeps them dry... its to absorb the sweat... so they dont get their nice shirts all sweaty..they put the cologne on the top layer so they always smell good and so if they do decide to lose a layer they are not completely topless....not that it matters... but in public places where shirtless is not an option generally wife beaters will do the trick... I think they are the replacement for the classic white undershirt... but since they dont have sleeves they are more preferred.

wife beaters are super thin. it would not provide much layering if they were to use them during winter time. plus, wearing them in summer under shirts gives them the option of taking off their shirt over the wife beater rather than going completely topless.

I don't know why they really do, but I believe the whole undershirt thing started not as an extra layer for warmth but for some level of modesty. In a man's dress shirt, you can see through to their chest and hair and nipples. Not that it really matters much when they don't have on dress clothes, but that's where it originated. Maybe now it's more of a layered fashion statement.

I wear them for those just in case situations Because I like big shirts and if some1 thinks they are going to beat me up they got a nother thing coming cause im coming out that shirt and they won't be able to scratch me up. It's also good for when ur havin sex so that the female will not scratch u up as badly and trust we do get scratch very badly well i do I can't speak 4 every1

i think most guys wear undershirts like a wife beater because its like a bra to them, so that their nipples won't show and if they do sweat which im sure they do, they want the sweat on the undershirt, because most likely the shirt that they are wearing on top is something that they really don't want to get all sweaty.

Guys wear an undershirt under their shirt for the same reason women wear pantyhose under long pants. They were raised that way!

They wear them to stop the sweat from dripping down their backs, and ruining their shirts ( that's what undershirts are for)

Being a guy, I think they look trashy and there should be a law against them. The nipple and sweat thing I'm sure is true, but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one.
