I thought this wasa myth until I married my husband.ALMOST every year on the way home from vacation my husband thiks he can find a quickier way home! But we always get lost! Of course he says we are NOT lost as long as we are going west!! But if he doesn't know where were at , and it takes an additional 3 hours to get home I say we are LOst!!!! I don't know how many times I've begged him to pleasejust stop and ask, LOL!!

Because God forbid they end up looking like they are clueless aobut something! My guy and I go over that a million times a year, and he still won't stop! I have given up! Now, I just smile and say...boy I wonder what they are doing at ....right about now?! It drives him crazy, but it makes me smile..inside and out!

You women always judge every other man on Earth by the way your husband does things, I swear to God. I'm not saying there aren't a significant number of men who do this, but when I worked in retail, I had more than a few come in to my store and ask for directions, so we can't all be that bad.
But if you really want to know why I think so many men are this way, I'll tell you. Here it is.
Women often treat their husbands as though they are supposed to know everything. Note that I didn't say they treat them like they really do know everything, but rather they treat them as though they are supposed to know everything. Whenever something is broken, you (collective you, not directed at any one person in particular) run to him and expect him to know how to fix it. The washer won't work, you act like he has some built-in knowledge of how to make it work again. You want a new ceiling fan installed, you act like he is supposed to have a born-in mastery of how to install all of the electrical stuff. They see this, and when presented with a situation that makes them question their skills, they don't want to admit it.
I guess I could be wrong, but that is my take on the matter.

First off I must defend men in general, not all of us do this but I can say some do. But I think it is that the man feels it is a sign of being less of a man. They feel they will just happen across the sign that will save the adventure of the new shortcut that just didnt work....lol Personally, I'l pull over, laugh a little, and beg for the directions if needed...lol Good luck babe, and tell him it will be fine...asking for directions doesnt change the way you look at him as a man.

You married the wrong guy, lol.... Not all men are like that. It's not hard to ask for direction except if you're afraid that you might ask from a wrong person. It depends actually on the place, you will never ask anything from someone if you are in the middle of "Shell City" (Spongebob Squarepants Movie).

Well, if a pretty little lady goes into a gas station to ask direction, the guys or gals are helpful. If a guy goes to ask for directions he is look at like he has just stepped in dog **** and dragged it into the station. Take my word for it, no one need that cultural humiliation.

I think that's an urban car myth...I've never actually met a man who wouldn't ask for directions.

They want to appear self-sufficient to their families even if they are directionally challenged. If you belong to AAA, you can get travel maps from them that will show you routes to and from your vacation. Otherwise, get directions from Yahoo maps (don't use MapQuest!!!!) You can get directions to vacation and reverse directions from vacation.

yeah men think they are know it alls!!!
They have control issues and think that they can do anything. They hate giving other people control and they hate it when women are right. They are sexest and we live in a sexest world
