Get your hands on Entrepreneur magazine and then find the business kits for specific businesses and read one of those thoroughly --that'll list what you need and scare you properly with what you don't know how to do.

What you don't know how to do that has to be done is what will kill you. Conquer that and you're self-employed.

I take it you already have an idea for the type of Business you wish to run. You need to decide if you want to be a sole trader, partnership or go limited before you go any further. Once you have decided that, i would suggest going to all of the major banks and getting a start up business pack, and book some appointments with a Business Manager with the banks so you can go and have a chat with them. This way you will be able to get the best deal on bank account tarrifs etc specific to your individual needs. Once you have chosen your bank, you will have to back into see the Business manager with a completed business plan. They will help you from there. If you go limited, you will have to register with companies house. I would suggest asking around too for a good accountant in your area, and et them to deal with your tax returns so you dont run into trouble with nico

Contact your local chamber of commerce. They will let you know what you need to do to become legal. Also find something you know or are passion about. If you don't love it then it will feel like the worse job you ever had. Read books. Lots of books at the libary or from amazon.com also the SBA is a great resource to. Good Luck!!!!

Depends on what business. I started my own online business about 6 months ago and I on my way to making 6 figures this year. If you wanted to try something like that check out to learn about online marketing. Other than online, most people think that it takes about 5 years to get a business off its feet.
