Yes. before Italy was unified as a country it was divided in many states.
"Italy was home to many well-known and influential European civilisations, including the Etruscans, Greeks and the Romans. For more than 3,000 years Italy experienced migrations and invasions from Germanic, Celtic, Frankish, Lombard, Byzantine Greek, Saracen, Norman, and Angevin peoples, and was divided into many independent states until 1861 when Italy became a nation-state."
Once I heard an Italian from Rome refer to Sicilians as "Blacks"
PS. I am not racist. I am just quoting what this person said. He is the husband of a coworker and guess what, she is african american.

Interesting comment "Delcinea" about Sicilians and "black"
Some years ago I was reading a travel piece in my local sunday newspaper and the article stated that a Northern Italian spoke of Sicilians "Those people are Africans". Dont forget that Hannibal was right outside the gates of Rome for at least 10 years. And I know that those invading soldiers were not just masturbating!
It would be interesting to note the effect of African invasions on Italy and the influence on the local culture.
This is a sensitive issue today because of racial exploitation but the truth is usually more exciting.

nicely, i be conscious of a woman from Sicilia and each physique in her kin has darker epidermis and eco-friendly eyes. Then, i be conscious of a pair of latest immigrants from Italy and the two have very honest epidermis and blue eyes. i assume human beings from Sicila may well be darker.
