I am 15 years old and i am really serious about cosmetology. Since this summer is almost over i was thinking about taking a cosmetolgy course at a school near me. I was wondering if anyone knew how long i would have to go to cosmetology school to get hired at MAC. I plan to be a doctor but it never hurts to be skilled in another area... so i just want to work at MAC part time while still in high school. Please give me all the information you know about cosmetology school!
Thanks : )

I, and a few other people I worked with, practiced as cosmetologists while going to college. It takes about 10 months full time to complete cosmetology training and longer if you do it part time. In some states you can get just enough hours to be an esthetician or nail tech, but it varies. I found being able to do a quick, good haircut in the dorm an invaluable way to earn extra money. (Of course, all earnings have to be reported to Uncle Sam.) Good Luck!

Well you would have to either become an Ethetician or a Cosmetologist. In california the Cosmo program is 1600 hours 1.5 years the Esty program is 600 hours. you are not allowed to practice make-up in the state of california without one of these licenses. you will not be hired at mac or abole to get that goos pro discount without one of these licenses. Okay wait are u talking MAC counter or MAC PRO because u need none of these to work at a Macys counter

I am a Canadian hairstylist and I went to school at Marvell college. It was a 9 month course and then x number of hours to apprentice before obtaining my licence. It was approximately the same amount of time for all the esthetician's too. If it is strictly make-up you are enquiring about I don't know. and if you live in B.C Canada, or not in Canada at all, then all this information is pretty useless.

you can try calling the school they can tell you alot. also try your states state board of cosmetology most have a web site and they can tell you how many "hours" you need to graduate my state was 1500 clock hours. we covered skin care, hair care, coloring, perming, nails, and hair removal. Every state is different so please check with your local state board.Or try the school they can tell you alot. I'm not sure but you don't have to have a cosmetology license to apply make up but that's just here in my state but if you wax eyebrows or anything like that you have to have it. GOOD LUCK!!

http://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cosmet/cosreq.htm
That is the link to the State Board in Maryland that tells you the requirements for Cosmetology (hair, skin, nails, makeup), Esthetician (skin, makeup), Makeup Artist...etc.
