why is it important to scientist to share information about their observations and experiments?

Because scientific discoveries shouldn't be for the good of only one person. It is the combined efforts of millions of scientists over a couple millennia that has allowed us to come as far as we have today. If scientists didn't share their findings with anyone else we would still be back at square one and for anyone to know anything about science they would have to figure it out for themselves. The scientific community would not exist if information was not shared!

1. So people can question and attempt to refute your methods and results, and to give alternative ways of interpreting your observations. That is how our science moves forward.

2. To contribute to our information pool, and to developing ways of making our life better in some way.

3. To gain recognition, personal gratification.

4. To make a living as a scientist (get paid).
