People who think like that are the only reason they could EVER win. I am hearing people talk like that more and more and it needs to stop. Live not in fear, live in caution. There is a HUGE difference between being cautius and being scared. The government is not setting up restrictions on things because they are scared. They are doing it to be cautius. We HAVE to change to defeat this new type of war because it surley will not go away if we simply "Go on about our business" like some suggest. We need to FIGHT it not ignore it. People think the terrorists are winning since we are being cautious. I say NO WAY. The only way they win is if we do nothing and ignore it and allow them to kill us, because make no mistake they WANT to kill us no doubt about it. I say lets not make it easy on them by simply going on with life as normal. I say we put more money in defense and more money into this war. Iraq may not have been the right place to start but it could be the place to finish it. Agree?

Some great answers here. Tough As Hell, please give me your honest take on what freedom loving countries should do in order to protect themselves. Afterbirth 07 also has a great answer everyone should read.

I'm sure there are terrorists as I have fought them myself. Afterbirth(EEEEW)07 has the mose logical answer so far. Too bad it is too late for that.

Darin E, I wish we could just butt out, but that would make our allies who are fighting for our safety as well as theirs back otu too. Then the world would be in a shooting barrel for them.

It really is unfortunate that war makes people rich isn't it.

Agree with you in that terrorism needs to be fought. They are responsible for innocent loss of life on every major continent, but I think the questions we should be asking ourselves is "why are they doing this?" and more specifically "why are we being targetted?"

Its my understanding that the root of terrorism is often considered to be religion and I agree that it is a large part, but I think its also important to acknowledge the stranglehold grip the West has on the rest of the world - either via power/influence/weapons distribution/the economy. Its not right to just blame it all on them and say "they're the bad guys, the Axis of Evil", what are we doing to further antagonize the situation.

I like to live here in the UK, it is a free (although sometimes unfair) country where I have the power to say what I like. I would never like my freedoms to be restricted, but I only hope that by trying to understand the reasons behind terrorism instead of marching in there with a few thousand missles and destroying various targets then terrorism can be stamped out. War is not always the solution, and I always believe that diplomacy should be tried at least at some point.

I respect your patriotic outlook on the matter, and I can understand you wanting to defend yourself and your country, but please before you get an itchy trigger finger consider the "enemys" POV.

The best way to finish the war in Iraq is to let the Iraqis finish it themselves. It is simply too big a problem to solve, you'd need 10 or 15 soldiers on every street corner in every town in Iraq. It's gone too far, if the first month or so had gone differently then the war WOULD have been over, if America had won hearts and minds rather than alienating the population then the insurgents would have never got a foothold.

The terrorists couldn't ever win, because they don't have any objectives. Nobody seems to really know what it is that they want to achieve, which is very handy so governments can take away freedoms, while there not actually being a particularly organised and coherant group that IS threatening us with defined objectives.

I feel that as long as there is a war, everybody is losing. People are dying left and right. How can anybody stand there and say that someone wins. When death and destruction reign, we as human beings lose.

I happen to agree with you with the finish it part of your rant. I don't think this country can afford to waste more money and more lives on some war that never was. In case you have forgotten, this is supposed to be the post war effort.

The actual war ended years ago. This is just another money making scheme for the worlds stupidest president. His pockets get fat while the people's shrink. I think that he should have taken his little vendetta against Sadam and shoved it where the sun doesn't shine.

I think some people have forgotten that Sadam was not the one who bombed the towers. Bin Laden was. Why hasn't the president gone in search of him? Maybe it was because that was all part of the plan? Wake up and think people. Bush isn't worried about terrorism, he is worried about his wallet.

HAHAHA! You silly American. Open your eyes and look a lil closer. There are no terrorists! This cautious behavior is to lead people like you to believe there are terrorists and to scare us. The government has cruel ways of covering up other things that they are doing and the war is one of them. Its all logic..."for every action there is a reaction." If Bush didn't act, then noone would have reacted. Watch "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 911" by Michael Moore. And try this for a change...watch other world news. whether it's in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia etc...Not ur typical news at home. Read into it a lil more and u'll see for urself that the government is behind it all. Lets say u do fight back, at a country that probably has nothing to do with whats going on, and many soldiers and civilians die...what are u gonna get out of it...nothing! It's all greed and ignorance. There are no enemies unless u make them.

Oh really u have fought with them? Then name me one, just ONE. Can you? See, you fight blindly at something someone trained you to hate or believe in. That doesn't mean you fought a terrorist. Do you have hard evidence that can convince me to believe there is a terrorist out there? oh and please while ur at it, please define "terrorist" for me. I wanna see what ur definition of one is.

before everything, it sounds as though the argument presented against the form grow to be in fact "This development must be seen a landmark by way of fact we do unlike what the plans are for after it gets torn down". that doesn't be a controversy i might go with any panel to take heed to whilst their purpose grow to be to decide on no remember if or no longer issues are historic. 2nd, the object delivered to my interest that the proposed Mosque isn't meant to be equipped "at" floor 0, only close to it. 2 blocks from it. Which calls into question precisely how far is plenty sufficient?

NO! The worst enemy we face are the people around us. To many people think that we can talk the terrorist out of killing us. The only way to stop the terrorist is to kill the ones you find and make the rest fear the way we will respond to an attack. We need to make an example out of a city or country. I'm talking about wiping it off of the face of the map. Even Mohamed Attah cared about his mother. What if he knew that we would kill all of his family and every one around them if we were attacked? Do you think he would have lead the attack on 911?

Iraq was not the place to start! But it needs to BE finished and as a winner, not a whiner!

To think the fight against terror will stop there is foolhardy at best!

The stated goal of the terrorists is kill or convert us!

They'll not convert us so we're left with being killed!

We should follow the advice of Patton!

MAKE THE OTHER POOR DUMB B@STARD DIE FOR HIS COUNTRY!

yes the terrorists are gaining ground. republican war footing policy has proved itself to be counterproductive.

if you're working hard, it generally means you're not working smart.

john kerry was right. terrorism is a scourge like organized crime. sending our troops into an arab country has proved itself to be a strategy that tends to produce more new combatants than it removes from the battlefield.

international cooperation of modern leaning states is the answer. that means more cooperative spying and policework. the success in britain showed the efficacy of that plan. the shock and awe plan, a fist in the hornet's nest, was just plain stupid, and a lot of us are not suprised at the bitter harvest we planted.

it is simple minded to expect bombs to solve complex cultural and political problems this way. it is short sighted.

G.W Bush is doing more to scare the public than anyone else is. All he ever talks about is how scared we should be. And that there are those who want to harm us because of what we believe. Well, I see the U.S. doing them harm for what they believe. It don't make it right for us and not them. Maybe he should butt out of everyones business and them fend for themselves Patriot..
